This was agreed by Svitlana Hrynchuk, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, and Raimund Gerald Jele, Head of Regional Programmes for Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) in Europe and Central Asia.
Mr. Raimund Gerald Jele noted that today FAO projects in various fields cannot ignore the environmental component. Environmental issues are inextricably linked to agriculture and food.
‘We already have a number of joint projects with FAO in the field of forestry reform and multi-purpose use of forests. We are interested in continuing cooperation in this area. We have agreed to take into account the previous experience of cooperation between the Ministry of Environment and FAO and to develop our initiatives,’ said the Minister.
Svitlana Hrynchuk informed the FAO team about the latest developments in climate policy, including the adoption of a framework climate law, the enshrinement in law of Ukraine’s goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050, and our current partnerships for the implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement: ‘Today, we are actively working on the preparation of the draft Nationally Determined Contribution 3.0 and are preparing to present it at COP30 in Brazil. We have agreed to maintain dialogue on the preparation of NDC 3.0 and to work together in this direction.’
‘Thank you, FAO, for your attention to Ukraine. Today, we are talking about the fact that Ukraine’s post-war recovery will be based solely on “green” principles. Environmental protection permeates all areas of our lives, so we are preparing to deepen our dialogue,’ said Svitlana Hrynchuk.
