Ukrainian MPs have voted in the second reading for the draft law 5650 “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts on the Conservation of Forests”.

The main threat to biodiversity is human activity and the destruction of natural habitats of flora and fauna. There is a catastrophic reduction of the area of wetlands, steppe ecosystems, natural forests, which occurs due to land ploughing, deforestation with the subsequent change of land destination, draining or watering of territories, industrial, housing and cottage construction.

In Ukraine, there are 300-500 thousand hectares of forests, which are located on agricultural land and actively returned to agricultural production.

The law defines a mechanism for the preservation of self-sown forests, with subsequent forest management on these territories.
