This involves the use of funds from the State Forest Resources Agency’s special fund, which will be allocated to the restoration of Ukrainian forests that have suffered significant damage as a result of the war.
The new mechanism provides for state support in several key areas:
– the restoration of forests in areas affected by hostilities and occupation
– the maintenance of a modern forest cadastre;
– the conduct of a national forest inventory;
– support for forest users who perform nature conservation functions without harvesting timber.
It is particularly important that the state will compensate up to 50% of the cost of forest restoration work in the affected areas. This will help accelerate the return of forest ecosystems to full health and strengthen the country’s environmental security.
Today, around 2.9 million hectares of forest have suffered damage of varying degrees; 800.000 hectares are located in temporarily occupied territories, over 50.000 hectares are mined, and a further 100.000 hectares are in the zone of active hostilities. Therefore, effective and targeted funding for forest restoration is a priority both during the war and in the period of Ukraine’s future reconstruction. Forest restoration is not only an environmental issue, but also an investment in a safe and sustainable future for our country.
