During a meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council of the State Forest Resources Agency, proposals relating to the creation of a forest cadastre, a national forest inventory and forest productivity forecasting were reviewed and approved.
Technical design of the geoinformation system for the state forest cadastre
The forest cadastre is to contain geospatial data, metadata and services. A unified state forest cadastre system will be created, which will have a corresponding geospatial model. Work has now been carried out on developing technical specifications for the geoinformation system of the state forest cadastre.
Improving the scientific and methodological foundations of the national forest inventory and monitoring, in particular the monitoring of forest soils
The document details the provisions and procedures for conducting the National Forest Inventory (NFI), standardises approaches to fieldwork, systematises practical experience in conducting the NFI, and introduces a system for data quality control and the development of the soil monitoring component. Practical application provides for the possibility of integration into international observation systems.
Projected assessments of the dynamics of the condition and productivity of Ukraine’s forests for the period up to 2050 under various scenarios, taking climate change into account
Projected assessments are provided for natural zones and dominant forest-forming tree species under three forest management scenarios:
– baseline – corresponds to current indicators;
– maximum – increasing timber harvesting to the maximum possible levels;
– multifunctional – takes into account modern requirements for sustainable forestry management and the transition to nature-friendly forestry.
In addition, the document forecasts trends in the condition and productivity of forests, taking into account the potential impact of climate change and the consequences of Russian military aggression. This work will help to identify, on a practical basis, tendencies in changes to forest stock indicators under various management and climate change scenarios up to 2050, and to identify the optimal management scenario, taking into account sustainability levels.
