A team from the State Forest Resources Agency took part in a joint government meeting with the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic, and the National Forestry Centre of the Slovak Republic. This is an important step in establishing the basic framework for bilateral cooperation in the forestry sector and the further implementation of joint projects.
This meeting followed on from the agreements reached between the governments of Ukraine and Slovakia in October 2025, which resulted in the signing of a Roadmap for Joint Action. It provides for joint bilateral consultations in the forestry sector to ensure the sustainable development and resilience of forestry in Ukraine.
During the meeting, the Slovak side offered expert-level support in the areas of forest monitoring and inventory, assessing their condition, and mapping damage to forest areas to inform future decisions.
First Deputy Head of the State Forest Resources Agency Volodymyr Buchko outlined areas of cooperation that would be beneficial for the development of Ukraine’s forestry sector, specifically:
training and exchange of experience
forest protection
consultations on adapting national legislation to EU standards
Following the talks, representatives of Ukraine and Slovakia agreed to form a joint working group to develop proposals for cooperation in specific areas and to prepare a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of forestry and sustainable forest management for signing.
