On 18.04.2023 the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine invited representatives of regional administrations, NGOs, academic institutions and international projects – among them the SFI-project- to discuss progress toward EU approximation.

Deputy Minister Yevhen Fedorenko invited all parties to actively support implementation of obligations to EU , despite current challenges caused by the war of Russia in Ukraine.

Minister’s advisor, Tetyana Tymochko, explained the task in more details.  The Ministry of Environment is responsible for comparison and corresponding adjustment of 1637 legal acts (directives, conventions, commission decisions, protocols, etc.).

The Ministry’s departments have listed these legislative acts of the EU. Participants of the current meeting have been requested to submit their proposals of cooperation by 21.04.2023. The Ministry will then set up working groups. Conclusions are planned to be submitted to the EU Commission by 30.06.2023. By 30.08.2023, a new action plan for the implementation of the legislation must be developed.

Oksana Abduloieva, member of the EU-Reform Support Team, demonstrated an example of an analysis of the EU Environmental Impact Assessment Directive.

SFI project intends to contribute to the venture with regard to the implementation of National Forest Inventory of Ukraine, which complies to European and international records.
